Probably one of the finest test pilots of all time. www.BBC.co.uk/news/uk-england-sussex-35626854During the inter-war years he spent a considerable amount of time in Germany with the newly formed Luftwaffe. In addition to flying with the Fleet Air Arm, he test flew aircraft from de Havilland, witnessed the liberation of Bergen Belsen, interrogated high ranking German officers, including Himmler. He also holds the record for flying the most aircraft and for making the most deck landings on aircraft carriers. After the war ended he was one of the allied party to check out German engineering, including revolutionary jet and early stealth fighters.... Last of a (very) few.
