AKA 'School For Unclaimed Girls' (US Title) or 'House of Unclaimed Women' (UK reissue title) or 'Hell House Girls (US reissue title).
Let's be honest all the titles of this above average film are dire!
I did write quite a lot about this movie on a place far away, far away but thought I would mention it again because it is soon to be re-released on DVD in the UK again (on the 21st March 2016) but this time as 'Girls of Shame'!!!!!! Where did they get this title from I hear you ask? Hong Kong! Yes, this was the title used on cinema release in HK! So, that is 5 titles it has gone under. If only the producers had given it a credible moniker to begin with then we wouldn't be saddled with all these horrible efforts that have plagued it since day one.
Lord knows why they are reissuing it again. The 2008 DVD (School For Unclaimed Girls) is still readily available on Amazon. Perhaps they think DW fans will buy it again not realising it is the same movie with a Hong Kong title?
I've seen this film, courtesy of the gentlemen from the Cornish film library. I gather Maureen Lipman who has a major supporting role wanted it chucked into Room 101 which seems a bit harsh. Yes, it's probably a piece of exploitation but it's not massively titillating and there is a a decent attempt at serious drama in there too. Some good on location filming and surprisingly good performances - Patrick Mower's lounge lizard is a highlight (discounting Confident Clive from Minder, surely the role he was born to play) and Lipman herself is great. Without giving anything away, the would be shock ending is rather bathetic although the subsequent scenes of Mower's character up to his old tricks again do pack a a punch.
