Sad to report that the creator of 'Shoestring' and 'Bergerac' has sadly passed away.
He also wrote for 'Callan', 'The Avengers', 'The Sweeney', 'Danger Man', 'Public Eye', 'Special Branch', 'Dr Who', etc etc.
RIP

That's a shame. I really enjoyed Shoestring when I watched them all a couple of years back. A candidate for shows that should have gone on longer. I liked Bergerac when it first started, quite entertaining, but I suspect it hasn't held up as well as Shoestring. But...two surefire hits and numerous episodes of other quality shows - not a bad CV is it?

That is a shame to hear. Shoestring is one of my favourite TV programmes and 100% agree that another series of it would have been welcome. Bergerac I liked as well, especially the earlier series.
RIP

Very good writer. I would have put him on a par with the likes of Roger Marshall and Murray Smith. RIP.

Yes, RBS's output as a writer/creator was up there with the best.

Following my comments above I watched an episode of Bergerac the other day, the one with Susan Penhaligon and her army of disturbed inner city kids. Really enjoyed it. Charlie Hungerford played a blinder outflanking a pair of American con artists. Him and Arthur Daley must be distantly related at the very least.

It's criminal that 2 entertain (I think) won't release series 2 of Shoestring after releasing the first one.

Having grown up in Weston-super-Mare I do enjoy location spotting though it is complicated by jumping between Bristol/Avon area and West London. I see a few round here have also contributed to the Shoestring locations site.

I see a few round here have also contributed to the Shoestring locations site. Great site that one, fair play. A family member of mine was old bill around Bristol for 20+ years in the 70s/80s and I sat him down and went through every missing Shoestring location - sadly though, came up with little. Eddie Shoestring is clearly teleporting back and forth between Twickenham, Bristol and even pops over the Severn Bridge now and again - love it. I tell you Wentwood Resevoir is legend in South Wales for turning up in Shoestring!
