This actress had quite a career and was more recently best known for playing Edna in Emmerdale. I was reading a little about her today and didn't realise she was married to Don Henderson from 1979 until his death in 1997. A quick read of imdb shows that she appeared in three episodes of 'Strangers', the first time in 1978, so possibly working together on this production led to their marriage>

She played a detective in one of the last ever episodes Charlie's Brother's Birthday from 1982.

Very sad to hear this, she's been in some of my favourite programs over the years. She has appeared with Don Henderson on quite a number of occasions. I always remember her as the original Rose in the first series of 'Keeping Up Appearances'. She was also great as Lucy in 'Get Back' playing John Bardon's characters girlfriend and as the mother in Victoria Wood's 'Pat & Margaret' (I think appearing alongside Don Henderson). In the 80's/90's she was often cast as a slightly tarty middle aged woman a part she could play to perfection. She's another actor/actress that really should have been cast in a Minder episode, I could imagine her playing someone like Rose Mellors.

Talking of 'playing Rose', I was VERY surprised to hear she played Rose in the FIRST series of Keeping Up Appearances before the role was recast. That was a decent sitcom considering what dross is on TV now.

That was a decent sitcom considering what dross is on TV now. I'm not sure if they recast her as they felt she wasn't right for the part or because she wasn't available. I'm guessing it was availability as she was just as good as Mary Millar who took over from her. On repeats the first series from 1990 isn't shown as often possibly due to a different Rose and the fact that Emmet doesn't appear until series 2. As you say a great sitcom.

+1 vote for 'Keeping Up Appearances'. Like ace5150 says, this is great stuff in an era of shoddy TV - sorry to hear the news of her death.
I knew she had been in 'Keeping Up Appearances' and also wondered why there had been a switch of actress. That said, full credit to her that she could go from Rose to Edna, they are of course world's apart. Also in 'King & Castle' and 'Common As Muck'.
RIP.

One of her earlier roles was as the 'bunny costume waitress' in Carry On At Your Convenience, when Richard O' Callaghan took Jacki Piper to the nightspot.
