The actor best known for his part as Cuthbert Rumbold in Are You Being Served? and its spin off Grave & Favour has died aged 81. He was the last surviving member of the main cast. I do hope the television and press mention this as when Frank Thornton died most newspapers/media said incorrectly that Frank Thornton was the last surviving cast member, I remember on I think The Wright Stuff Anne Diamond pointed out that Nicholas Smith was still alive. Sweeney fans will of course remember him as the swimming pool manager Simpkins in Golden Fleece. link

Penny Irving and Candy Davis are worth a shout if Mike Berry gets a mention. NONE are originals though

Mike Berry wasn't an original cast member was he? No, but he was an integral main starring cast member from 1981-85 and he was featured on the opening credits every week.

I used to like AYBS when I was a kid, remember him well. Did a voiceover part in the Wallace and Gromit film around 10 years ago.

Mr Rumbold was a distinct character. Nicholas Smith more or less replicated him when he played the leisure centre manager in The Sweeney.
Sorry to hear of his death. RIP Nicholas Smith.
